Why beauty?

Why beauty?  I have found that even in moments of extreme difficulty, sadness, illness or pain it is a place that I always return.  That is the beauty of beauty.  That it is always there.  It does not require anything of us.  We exist and that alone entitles us to wake up each day and find it in unexpected places.  Beauty is not the same as art, although art can often be beautiful.  Beauty lacks the same willful intention of art.   Works of art are created.  Beautiful moments simply exist.  They are not trying to be anything other than what they are and in so doing they provide us with a particularly apt metaphor for life.  We are already perfect in this moment and all manner of tiny beautiful things are available to us.  We only need to be present to take them in.  We do not need to seek them out or to pay for them or to create them.  We simply need to be open and available to the possibility of their existence and they will find us where we are. Here. Now.
